Brooklyn “Green Homes: Reduce Your Use” challenge!

Here’s news about a neighborhood-level green homes challenge from Brad Lander, a CWF Advisory Board member and NYC Councilmember. Neighborhood organizing is the central building block of Green Jobs-Green NY — so thanks for kicking us off in your district, Brad!

We’re building on great work done by Sustainable Kensington/Windsor Terrace with NYSERDA this winter and spring, where 40 families took part in the challenge. Now we have the capacity to expand the competition to the whole district.

Over time, we hope to do even more to green our homes and our community — including retrofits of homes and businesses that will achieve even bigger energy savings. Buildings generate 79% of New York City’s carbon emissions through their energy consumption, and residential buildings alone account for 30% of the city’s greenhouse gases.

The competition will begin August 1st. To participate, simply fill out the short online application and you will be entered into the competition.
