State Senate moves to improve bus service

In April, CWF Executive Director Dave Palmer called for the state to commit itself to transit equity — to invest in clean, affordable mass transit systems that provide family sustaining jobs and serve the needs of low-income and working people. Palmer recommended two immediate actions: improve enforcement of car-free bus lanes, and implement East and Harlem River Bridge tolls.

Recently, the NYS Senate took a step forward: the transportation committee approved legislation to step up enforcement of car-free bus lanes in NYC. There is much more that needs to be done. But smoothing the commutes of bus riders is a step in the right direction.
