The Center for Working Families is happy to report progress on several fronts.
First, the NYS Senate and Assembly are continuing three-way discussions with the Governor’s office about establishing an on-bill recovery system to allow homeowners to repay the cost of their Green Jobs/Green NY retrofit loan on their utility bill. We remain optimistic that a reconciled bill will become law this summer or fall. Click here for the report on passage of the bill in the Senate.
Second, the Center helped coordinate a dynamic and well-attended civic engagement training in New York City from July 9th to 11th. Over one hundred union members and community activists participated in the intensive program, known as Camp Wellstone, and gained practical skills in progressive action. If you’re interested in future hands-on trainings in grassroots activism, contact Amy Cohen, CWF’s Director of Civic Engagement, at amy@cwfny.org or 212-206-9168 x16.
Finally, the Center is thrilled to welcome our newest staff person, Bhavana Nancherla, who will serve as the Center’s part time office manager. Bhavana comes to us with a strong background in media work and advocacy around gender and sexual rights, particularly in the United States and India.
