Statement of Dave Palmer on Siena Poll Showing Overwhelming Support for Public Financing of Elections

“Today’s Siena poll shows that three in four New Yorkers support the key elements of Governor Cuomo’s election reform agenda: lower limits on campaign contributions and public financing of elections.

This is no surprise. By failing to limit the influence of big money, our current political system favors corporations over regular people. The results are civic disengagement, policy outcomes that cater to big donors instead of the public and a seemingly endless drumbeat of scandals.

Governor Cuomo’s proposed reforms will help correct these problems. They will shift control of elections away from corporations and towards regular voters.”
